Today is #nationalcreativityday, so it’s a perfect time to play #EyeSpyTiffany! The Neustadt’s Glass Archive is home to thousands of glass jewels that Tiffany Studios used in lighting fixtures, windows, metalwork, and architectural decorations. Can you spy the creative ways these opalescent “gems” were used in the Henry O. and Louisine Havemeyer mansion on Fifth Avenue? __ Photos: 852 Fifth Ave. & 66th St. [The Residence of Mrs. H. O. Havemeyer, exterior] by Byron Company, Collection of the Museum of the City of New York. | Balconies surrounding the two-story picture gallery at the Havemeyer mansion, ca. 1891–92, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. | Balustrade detail, ca. 1891–92, gilt metal and glass, University of Michigan Art Museum. | Pressed-glass apostrophe-shaped “jewels,” manufacturer unknown, introduced in Tiffany designs ca. 1890s, The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass. #tiffanyglass #designhistory #eyespy #jewels #gildedage #gildedagenewyork #glassart #tiffanystudios #fifthavenue #EyeSpyTiffany (fb)

Looking for plans for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend? Visit The Neustadt Gallery at the Queens Museum (@queensmuseum)! In addition to our special exhibition, “Tiffany’s Lamps: Lighting Luxury,” you'll see objects newly placed on display, including this “Vine Border” Reading Lamp. Glowing with vibrant green and yellow hues, this design features a gentle scrolling vine framed by a grid of geometric cut glass. Leaf-shaped forms—resembling little hearts—undulate within the vine band, and offer a pleasing contrast to the shade’s overall linear design. __ “Vine Border” Reading Lamp. Made in New York between 1905 and 1910. Created by Tiffany Studios (1902–1932) under the artistic direction of Louis C. Tiffany (1848–1933). Glass, cut and assembled with copper foil; Bronze, cast and patinated. The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass.
