Another lamp to review & another fun angle to share! This “Poppy” shade is included in our forthcoming exhibition “Tiffany or Tiphony? A Story of Desire.” Before it can travel, the shade requires an in-depth examination to determine any treatment needs. Reviewing the lampshade upside down provides a rare look at the brass filigree (intricately cut overlays) applied over the glass leaves encircling the bottom portion of the shade. When the lamp is lit and in use, this detailed filigree suggests the soft laciness of the poppy’s leaves. It’s an ingenious use materials that generates depth and enhances the shade’s overall design.
