Clintonville Community Band
The Clintonville Community Band is a nonprofit organization based in Clintonville, Ohio, founded in 1984 by Les Susi. Originally known as the North Columbus Community Band, it was renamed in 1997 to honor Clintonville's sesquicentennial and reflect its geographic ties to the community.
History and Purpose
Established to provide an opportunity for graduates of Columbus North and Whetstone High Schools to continue their musical pursuits, the band has since grown to include a diverse membership of high school, college, and graduate students, as well as professionals from various fields. Its mission is to foster and promote the appreciation of wind band music within the community.
Performances and Activities
Under the direction of Rick Burkart, former director of instrumental music for Whetstone High School, the band performs a wide variety of music, including works by famous composers such as Sousa, Bernstein, and Shostakovich. Performances take place at various venues around Columbus, including the Park of Roses and the Ohio State Fair. The band's concerts often align with community events, many of which are free and open to the public.
Structure and Membership
As a non-profit organization, the Clintonville Community Band is composed of volunteer musicians from the local area. The band welcomes individuals of all ages and backgrounds, ensuring a diverse and inclusive membership.
