What started as a tragic uptick in Catalina Island fox collisions, has now escalated into a four-wheeled campaign of vengeance. In 2024 alone, 17 foxes were killed by speeding vehicles. Now, biologists report a disturbing trend: at least one fox has reportedly discovered how to hot-wire small cars and is actively patrolling the Island with “a wild look in its eye and an uncanny understanding of reverse.” “We begged people to slow down,” said one biologist, visibly shaken. “Now we’re paying the price.” Officials urge residents and visitors to remain calm and watch for any drivers who appear to have a tail. But behind the absurdity is a real problem. Slow down, for fox sake. Here are some ways to help keep the Catalina Island fox safe: 1. If you see a fox in the road, slow down, wait for it to move or gently honk. 2. Use emergency lights to alert oncoming traffic. 3. Never feed a fox because it may associate vehicles with food, increasing its risk of road encounters. 4. To report an injured or deceased fox, call or text 310-606-9424 with your name and contact information, the fox's location and any details about the situation (photos if possible). Remember, never try to move an injured fox. Your report helps our biologists respond quickly. #aprilfools #april2025 #AprilFoolsDay #catalinaisland #catalinaconservancy #catalina (fb)
