Today is World Health Organization (WHO)'s #WorldHealthDay, this year focusing on the health of mothers and babies as the foundation of healthy families and communities. "There are so many things a pharmacist can do [for pregnant patients]," Rebecca Snead, National Community Pharmacists Association, told Pharmacy Times in 2024. "You can start out by the obvious things like making sure that they have access to folic acid supplementation…screen them for diabetes…If needed, do blood pressure screening, screen them to make sure that they're up to date on their #immunizations, make sure that they get their annual flu vaccine, make sure that they have their Tdap." From the specifics of when #pregnant patients should get their Tdap, to RSV vaccine timing, screening for substance use disorder, depression and more, Snead listed the myriad ways pharmacists play an important role in improving outcomes. "[#Pharmacists] are local health care problem solvers," she continued. "We are so good at customizing solutions to the healthcare challenges that are out there. The most powerful thing I think that we can do as independent community pharmacists is to create a place in our pharmacies — a safe place for maternal and postpartum, and infant care." #Healthcare | #WomensHealth | #Pharmacy | #Pharmacist (fb)

"If one's looking to [get involved]: It's okay to begin small—start as a reviewer of manuscripts, start as a reviewer of posters, submit for a roundtable session...that's how most of us began." In the next installment of AACP’s Engage Video Series, AACP President Anandi Law sits down with: 🥼 Dr. George E. MacKinnon III (Founding Dean and Professor, MCW School of Pharmacy, and Chair, AACP Council of Deans), and 🥼 Dr. Lynette R. Bradley-Baker (Senior Vice President and Chief Engagement Officer, AACP, and Staff Liaison, AACP Council of Deans) to discuss their work with the Council of Deans, their experiences helping shape pharmacy education through AACP, and the best ways to start getting involved. #PharmacyEducation | #PharmacySchool | #Pharmacy | #Pharmacist (fb)
