Meet Maria (pronounced like ‘Mariah’) McCarthy, our Vice President of Institutional and Public Funding on the Development team. Maria began her fundraising career while she was with Northeastern University, helping to launch Foundation Year, a program aimed at helping students, mostly from Boston Public Schools, transition successfully to college. After Northeastern, Maria became a development consultant/grant writer for several education-focused clients, many focused on college readiness and access. She then spent six+ years working with The Community Group (TCG), a nonprofit that runs a network of childcare centers, public K-8 charter schools, and out-of-school-time enrichment programs and annually serves approximately 4,000 children in Lawrence, MA. Maria’s work with TCG was focused on public funding, with heavy exposure to DESE and EEC. Prior to her development roles, Maria spent over ten years in educational research at Abt Associates, the Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE), and the Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE), and was a 4th and 5th grade classroom teacher at a BPS elementary school in Dorchester. Throughout Women's History Month, we've gathered at TPZ to recognize women who have made a difference to society and industry, and to share our own stories. We proudly continue to create space where girls and women are valued and empowered. #WomensHistory (fb)
