(BIG) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1975 by a group of African American civil servants at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (now the Department of Health and Human Services). The organization was incorporated in 1976 in Washington, D.C., with the mission to advocate for equal opportunity and professional development for African Americans in government.
