KAISER WOODLAND SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

Follow Message Edit

The mission of the Kaiser-Woodland Schools Foundation is to provide STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) instruction for over 1,000 TK-6th grade students at Kaiser and Woodland Elementary Schools. We, as a Foundation, are comprised of parents and teachers at both schools, who are looking to build successful futures for our students, many of whom come from a diverse and disadvantaged socioeconomic background. Why STEM? • STEM occupations will grow far more quickly than the economy as a whole (17% versus 10%), and will be the second-fastest growing occupational cluster, after Healthcare occupations. (Georgetown University) • Sixty-five percent of elementary student's jobs aren't a reality just yet and many of them are STEM careers. (New York Times)• Introducing STEM at a young age has a strong correlation to future careers in STEM. A recent report from Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce found that 56% of those with Bachelor's degrees in STEM fields earn more than Master's degrees in non-STEM occupations. • "STEM education is the key to U.S.'s economic future."- U.S. NewsThe Proof: Since the Foundation's inception less than five years ago, test scores of Kaiser Elementary students in Star Science proficiency has risen from 58% to 84%. In addition, our Middle School is reporting that students from our program are academically "above average" in STEM-related classes and have reportedly shown greater problem-solving skills. Our Goal: Our goal this year is to raise $100,000 to continue to provide STEM-based classroom instruction and supplies to focus on STEM at the TK-2nd grade levels and Engineering in 3rd-6th. We are also looking to add new STEM-focused projects including robotics and computer instruction in the near future. We need your help! We cannot do this alone. We need corporations like yours to support the future working talent in Orange County. Will you join us in support of the STEM education of our local youth?
