Wednesday night, Power U members showed up in full force for Miami-Dade’s only in-person hearing to push back against FPL’s latest cash grab. We delivered powerful testimonies, laid out the facts, and made it clear to the FPSC and FPL that we see through their scheme. FPL is trying to sell this rate hike as “necessary for improved services,” but we know the truth. Black and brown working-class communities still face constant outages, delayed repairs, and the worst impacts of climate disasters—while FPL executives pocket record profits. If approved, this increase would raise our annual bills by hundreds of dollars, squeezing families already struggling to make ends meet. We won’t let them price-gouge our communities without a fight. Interested in joining the fight? Join us at our next Environmental Justice Committee meeting to keep building power through our campaigns, strategize next steps, and hold FPL accountable to the communities they serve 💥 📅 June 11th 📍 Power U Office 745 NW 54th St ⏰ 5:30pm email 📧 info@poweru.org if you have any questions on how to get involved! This past Saturday, we brought the movement to Moore Park for our Community Townhall! 💥 Our members stepped up, shared their visions, and laid out bold campaigns to tackle some of the challenges facing our community—from the affordability crisis our families are facing with childcare, extreme heat and the way corporate monopolies are profiting off of the crisis, to the dangerous 287(g) program that deputizes local police into ICE agents. Shoutout to Power U Members Madi, Ty, James, Rogbe, Jandrick, and Maggie for speaking with @themiamitimes about their campaigns, the fights ahead, and the future we’re building together. ☀️ Want to hear directly from them? Check out the full article (link in bio) and join the movement! Huge shoutout to #MoorePark for hosting us! #PowerU #PowerUinthenews #localnews #peoplepower #community (fb)
