St. Joseph Regional Health Network

St. Joseph Regional Health Network is a nonprofit health care organization that was previously a part of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI). In July 2015, it was acquired by Penn State Health, marking a significant integration into the larger health system. The network includes St. Joseph Medical Center, St. Joseph Downtown Reading Campus, St. Joseph Medical Group, and St. Joseph Physician Hospital Organization (PHO).

Discussions for the transfer of ownership began in 2014 as part of a broader trend in the healthcare industry towards integrated care systems. The acquisition was approved by the Penn State Board of Trustees and received final approval in 2015. This integration built upon a five-year clinical relationship between Penn State Hershey and St. Joseph, which had already led to the establishment of specialty care services in the region.
