BLCI breaks the cycle of poverty by preparing underserved students to be among the first in their families to attend and succeed in college. Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) believes that higher education empowers people to make positive changes in their lives and their communities. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by preparing underserved students to be the first in their families to go to college, through after school programs that begin in third grade.

Barrio Logan College Institute – Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Through Education The Need for BLCI Barrio Logan College Institutes main priority is to positively impact the lives of San Diego youth and the trajectory of their futures. Students in our programs begin their college journey in 3rd grade. To date 100 of our students have enrolled in college. Research shows that low academic attainment levels are associated with poverty crime low civic engagement and poor health outcomes.
