FABnyc – FABnyc

Strengthening the cultural vitality of the Lower East Side FABnyc was founded in 2001 as the nonprofit leadership organization for the East 4th Street Cultural District, a historic and vibrant arts corridor in Manhattan between Second Avenue and Bowery. Fourth Arts Block (FAB), founded in 2001, works to improve and promote the East 4th Street Cultural District by preserving the block's unique cultural environment. East 4th Street between 2nd Ave and Bowery is home to more than a dozen arts groups, 12 theaters, 8 dance and rehearsal studios, and a film screening room. Due to FAB's activism, in October 2005, the City sold 8 properties to the block's arts tenants for $8 and designated it a Cultural District - the first in Manhattan and only of only two in New York City. FAB is now overseeing the renovation and conversion of more than 100,000 square feet of arts space, promoting the district as a destination, and providing support services to our arts organizations and community.
