The Friends of Sherwood Island State Park is a volunteer advocacy group whose mission is to enhance the Park & educate the public about its resources. Sherwood Island is a State Park, operated by CT DEEP. To contact the state: DEEP.StateParks@CT.gov To preserve, maintain, improve and enhance Sherwood Island State Park for the benefit of the general public and for the wildlife living or passing through the park.

People come to the park to walk bike swim fish study nature watch birds fly kites fly model airplanes play volleyball picnic or just relax under the trees. The new Nature Center on the east side between the East Beach and the Nature Trail opened for the first time in 2009. There are lots of ways that you can get involved.
