Then & Now: Oklahoma Theatre Supply Co. Built in 1946 by the Peeks, Oklahoma Theatre Supply Co. was a key contributor to Film Row's ecosystem surrounding the film exchange program, and where Maxine Peek operated her business for over 70 years. This landmark business supplied films, projectors, seats, and concessions to local theaters, later becoming the region's top installer of drive-in speaker systems, and was the only building on Film Row to continue into the 21st century under a single owner and operator. Most recently home to Creative Academy's fine arts program before its move to Walker Ave, this building is a testament to West Village's rich cinematic heritage. Film Row A historic place within the West Village HISTORY OF FILM ROW By the 1930s West Sheridan Avenue formerly Grand Avenue was the destination for theater owners looking to screen and lease films for their movie houses. Almost all of the studio offices had moved to this stretch of Sheridan Avenue earning its nickname Film Row. It became one of 35 film distribution centers across the country home to notable film companies like Paramount Pictures MGM Universal Fox and Warner Brother up until the 1980s. Oklahoma Citys close proximity to rail lines and its density made it an ideal hub for the regional distribution and exchange of motion pictures.
