Why have a National Rescue Dog Day when we can fill a whole week and then some? Meet Mairead, another rescued Scottie with a history and habits that must be acknowledged before they can be changed. Mairead is about 6-1/2 years old and came to us when her dad could no longer care for her. She can be slow to warm to new people - in fact, she will likely growl at first meeting. But for those who aren't scared off by her unusual greeting, you will be rewarded with sweetness for years to come. Beware, though - she will greet your visitors with a growl, too, so would be best in a home without a whole lot of people coming and going. Mairead is looking for an all-adult home with rescued Scottie experience and , no contact with those under 18 years old. She wants a calm home with predictable people whom she can get to know. She wants a fenced backyard for running and playtime - dog parks are discouraged. Mairead has very strong opinions about other dogs so will need to meet any resident dogs before adoption. If you think you are the home for Mairead, complete an online application: WSRH.com. If you already have submitted an application, send an email to westiehouston@gmail.com Please note: we know Mairead is beautiful but that does not mean she is a good fit for everyone drawn to her. We are picky and want to make sure her next family is her furever family. (fb)

We didn’t mean to miss National Rescue Dog Day, we just had a hard time deciding who to post for such an occasion! So today, we present to you… Robinson! Robinson came to rescue when his previous people couldn’t keep him any longer due to a major life event. Robinson is a sweet gentleman… unless there is another animal around. Then he enters stalking mode. He is content with attention from people and a fenced backyard to perfect his stalking abilities on the neighborhood squirrels. He loves all food and walks and stalking birds on walks. You get the idea. We’ve been told “but I’ve had a Scottie before and they usually love other dogs, so will Robinson”. The problem is, rescue dogs are unique and will not fit into the “usual” box, no matter how hard you try to force them. Robinson, like our other rescue dogs, have a past that must be taken into account. We don’t know their full history (believe us, we’ve asked) but it’s important for us to place them in a home that will respect their individual needs and provide patience as your new furry friend adjusts to their new home/family/routine. We recognize a rescue dog isn’t for everyone but we are grateful for the loving adopters that give our furry friends the chance to thrive in their furever homes and become the happy and healthy little friends we know they can be. Think Robinson is the rescue dog for you? He’s looking for a furever home with rescue Scottie experience. A home without other dogs, cats, small animals, or small children. He would be best with older children or an all adult household. He would love a fenced backyard and lots of walks to explore, and absolutely no dog parks! If Robinson is the dog for you, apply only at wsrh.com (fb)
