Thank you to those who joined us at the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair, located at Powerhouse Arts, Brooklyn, this past weekend! We had a surprise visit with the incredible artist, Délita Martin, and many coming to speak to us! Such a joy! We are looking forward to Délita coming this summer to print with Brandywine Workshop and Archives. We will be sharing more highlights from the fair this week and we look forward to an even better show next year at Powerhouse Arts! (fb)

The entanglement of lines and free-falling tumble of spoons in artist Nene Humphrey’s lithograph, brings together her interest in neuroscience and her spoon sculptural series. Her work delves into loss, the neurology of emotion, and the beauty that exists within these states. She works with neuroscientists as an artist-in-residence @nyuniversity’s LeDoux Center for Neural Science to depict the seemingly infinite space of emotion and memory. She creates cross-sections of the brain’s intricate amygdala, an almond-shaped mass with thousands of neurons that serves as the powerhouse of human emotion. The vibratory drawings produce dense, layered, and chaotic lines. As seen in this print, these black, hair-like threads oscillate, mimicking the amygdala’s energy and communication systems. Like her sculpture in copper, steel, and wire, the spoons and crown-like shapes depicted in the print suggest depth, weight, and balance to imbue the piece with a three-dimensionality. We hope you enjoyed the small sampling of over 186 women artists in our #womenshistorymonth series.
