This morning, the EMS world lost a legend — Bill Plunkett. I had the privilege of meeting Bill in the early 1980s during a trip to pick up a new ambulance from Yankee Coach in Palmer, Massachusetts. That trip marked the beginning of a lasting connection, as our paths continued to cross over the years. What I learned from Bill cannot be measured—his wisdom, mentorship, and example left an indelible mark on my life. And I know I am not alone in that. Bill was a teacher by both profession and nature. His impact on EMS across the region was profound and far-reaching, influencing countless individuals and shaping the field in ways that words can hardly capture. Though he retired from his role as Chief years ago, Bill remained deeply involved with Baldwin EMS and continued to serve the region with the same dedication and passion he had always shown. His legacy lives on not only in his contributions to EMS, but also in his children, who followed in his footsteps into public safety and continue to advance the systems he helped build. To his beloved wife Pat, his children, and grandchildren—please accept our deepest condolences.
