YWCA USA mourns the loss of Francie Garber Pepper, an activist, philanthropist and true trailblazer. Francie upheld her family's commitment and legacy to the YWCA—her mother, a former association president, and her aunt, who established several YWCA Asian chapters. Building her own legacy, Francie led a $7.5 million campaign at YWCA Greater Cincinnati to triple their shelter’s capacity in 1995. Present day, she served as honorary co-chair of their $11.5M capital campaign to, once again, increase the capacity to serve survivors. In 2012 YWCA’s National office honored Francie with the inaugural Women of Distinction Award, which celebrates women who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and integrity in advancing women's economic empowerment and racial justice.
