“I was held not just by medicine and science, but by people - people who often treated me with dignity, people who fought for me when I couldn’t fight for myself, people like the incredible team at the Rutgers Cancer Institute,” Stage 4 breast cancer survivor Atiba Page, told the hundreds gathered at the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center for its ribbon cutting earlier today. “You didn’t just treat my cancer, you treated ME. You treated my humanity, and for that I will forever be grateful.” She stood before the audience “as living proof of what compassion, courage and innovation can do when they come together.” We cannot thank you enough, Atiba, along with our other cancer survivors, including Grace (pictured here with her mom, Aubrey), who was treated at Rutgers Cancer Institute and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey for a brain tumor, for joining us today - your inspiring journeys testimonies to hope and healing - as we gathered in New Brunswick to celebrate a new chapter in #cancercare for the people of New Jersey and beyond. “I was you.
