This past weekend, EAIA partnered with the Eric Sloane Museum in Kent, CT, on their second annual Iron Works Weekend. The site the Eric Sloane Museum now rests on was once home to the Kent Iron Works and the beautiful stone iron furnace is still on the property today. On Saturday, iron was smelted in a bloomery furnace, producing a 25 pound bloom, or mass of iron.
