Last December, we shared the story of little Jimena, a two-year-old, born to a teen mother in a children’s home, who had mobility issues, diagnosed with significant disabilities. Last week the judge ordered her transfer back to the orphanage in the northern Petén jungle, a large town called Poptún. As with every child in the care of Los Gozosos, our mission was to restore Jimena to health and to reach her full potential. And with this mission accomplished, we are so very grateful for the professionals and loving caregivers and each of you who all did their part to make this transformation a reality. Thank you. As predicted she was running rings around the staff by the time she left and talking up a storm. It was a bittersweet goodbye, as Jimena invaded our hearts from her arrival. But nothing compares to the JOY of seeing her reunited with her mother and all those who love her in the other orphanage. The judge and other officials were so thrilled with her transformation and accomplishments, that they struggled to contain their emotions. Byron has the sweetest spirit and is so kind and sweet. Byron has some special needs, including a shunt for hydrocephaly and he requires some specialized medical equipment to assist with mobility.
