SAVE THE OAA Senior Services hosted four ‘call to action’ events yesterday, in support of the Older Americans Act, which is in jeopardy. If the OAA is not renewed, seniors would lose transportation, socialization, protection from abuse, meals, vital exercise programs, assistance with Medicare and Medicaid forms, AND MORE. Our agency remains neutral when it comes to politics. Yet, we must advocate for older residents. This issue is not partisan, it’s imperative! Rep. Lauren Underwood spoke passionately to our large outdoor gathering in Yorkville. Vern Tepe, Elgin Township Supervisor, spoke to our huge turnout in Elgin, then he walked with seniors outside, holding signs to garner support. In Aurora, we were honored to have Aurora's Deput Mayor, Casey Cuevas in attendance, as well as staff from Rep. Barbara Hernandez and Rep. Bill Foster's offices. In Crystal Lake, we were pleased to welcome staff from the offices of Rep. Susan Nessand Rep. Jan Schakowsky. Thank you to ALL who came out in Crystal Lake, Elgin, Aurora and Yorkville to have their voices heard. Postcards were written to legislators - and phone numbers were provided to call local government and ‘flood the phones’ with our plea: “Don’t Blow Out the Candles on OAA!” (fb)
