Bay Head Yacht Club

The club was founded during a time when Bay Head was emerging as a popular seaside resort, attracting prominent families from Philadelphia and New York. Its first clubhouse was built in 1889, and by 1914, it was a founding member of the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association. The current clubhouse was constructed in 1928 to accommodate a growing membership. Over the years, Bay Head Yacht Club sailors have won numerous championships, including more than 175 in classes such as E Scows and Barnegat Bay A Cats.

Activities and Facilities

The Bay Head Yacht Club offers a variety of activities, including sailing, tennis, and social events. It operates a sailing fleet comprising nearly one hundred boats, ranging from Optimists to classic catboats, supporting the education and empowerment of future sailors. The club also serves as a venue for weddings and other events, boasting multiple waterfront locations with unprecedented views.

Restoration and Upgrades

In recent years, the historic clubhouse underwent significant renovations. To address issues caused by storms and rising sea levels, the building was raised and placed on new pilings, with the existing structure restored to its original glory. This project included the addition of a new floor, providing more space for waterside activities.

As a nonprofit, the Bay Head Yacht Club generates income from initiation fees, contributions, and public use of its facilities. Its financial reports indicate substantial revenues from these sources. The club does not offer tax-deductible donations since it is categorized under 501(c)(7).
