Trout Unlimited

Trout Unlimited is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of freshwater streams, rivers, and associated upland habitats for trout, salmon, and other aquatic species. It was founded in 1959 in Michigan by a group of 16 anglers who aimed to protect trout in popular fishing rivers.

History and Founding

The organization was established along the banks of Michigan's Au Sable River. Founders included notable figures such as Art Neumann and George Griffith. Dr. Casey E. Westell Jr. served as the first president, while Art Neumann was the first vice president.

Trout Unlimited's mission is to bring together diverse interests to care for and recover rivers and streams, ensuring that future generations can experience wild and native trout and salmon. The organization envisions communities across America engaging in the work of repairing and renewing rivers, streams, and other waters upon which we all depend.

Activities and Conservation Efforts
