Latest News Flu Vaccination Can Reduce Flu Illness Influenza flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses that infect the nose throat and sometimes the lungs. CDC estimates that there have been at least 29 million illnesses 370000 hospitalizations and 16000 deaths from flu so far this season. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illness doctors visits and missed work and school due to flu and prevent flurelated hospitalizations. See the Figure below.
