History
The Methodist movement in Clay County began with the construction of the first Methodist church in 1838. Over time, due to political divisions, the congregation split but reunited in 1939. The current church building was constructed between 1938 and 1943 using native stones, some of which came from the remains of Fort Hembree's officers' quarters and dining hall. The church was officially dedicated on July 25, 1943. In 1968, it merged with the Evangelical United Brethren Church and became the Hayesville United Methodist Church[1].

The church has undergone several expansions. In 1991, an addition called "The Gathering Place" was built on the west side of the church.
