Earlier this week, Kettering Health Main Campus hosted a mass casualty training exercise. Volunteers from Kettering College and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base played the role of moulage victims coming in through triage and EMS. Training exercises like this are essential. They allow our teams to practice and review processes to ensure they are prepared in an emergency. Thank you to everyone who participated! (fb)

Have you heard about the Unity Garden? 🌱 Located across the street from Kettering Health Dayton, the Unity Garden is a community garden founded by Bruce Kidney, a Kettering Health Dayton RN. Bruce coordinated with Kettering Health leadership in 2023 to use the land, launching the garden with a mission to help members of the surrounding community have better access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Since then, Bruce has expanded the garden’s reach and resources through partnerships with local organizations and support from community members and colleagues. In addition to being a source for fresh produce, The Unity Garden is built with the environment in mind. Here are three ways it stands out as a sustainable, eco-friendly community resource: ♻️ Composting: By using locally sourced produce waste for fertilizer, the garden has diverted over 10,000 pounds of food waste from landfills. 💧 Drip Irrigation: This growing season, a drip irrigation system will be installed thanks to a generous grant from the Miami Valley Leadership Foundation! Drip irrigation optimizes water usage, leading to reduction in water waste and a more fruitful harvest. 🌱 Native Plants: Native plants are suited to Ohio’s climate, so they require less watering while producing better yields. They also help prevent soil erosion and support pollinators. We are grateful to Bruce and the team of volunteers and organizations working to help the Unity Garden thrive! If you’re looking for ways to support this eco-friendly initiative, volunteers are needed throughout September. To sign up for an upcoming weekend, message Bruce at unitygardendyt@gmail.com. (fb)
