The mission of the Dr Tom Dooley Foundation is to provide medical care, and medical training to people of the Third World. Our slogan is that "we are our brother's keeper." We want to help people who are ill, simply BECAUSE they are ill. The foundation is a non government organization, with no religious affiliation.In 1956 Dr Tom Dooley was voted in theGallup poll as the sixth most admired person in the world. The tenth was the Pope. His book Deliver Us From Evil was widely read in the 50s, and the royalities from the book enabled him to start a charitable organization named MEDICO: Medical International Corporation. It was the brainchild of Dr Tom Dooley, Dr Albert Schweitzer, and Dr Peter Commanduras. These three doctors believed that the Third World people could benefit from the knowledge and practice of physicians in the developed countries.
