Kristine Mays' "Rich Soil" exhibition now on view at the Garden invites reflection -- specifically around the questions of who we are and what we can do with our lives, the impact our lives have on the world. Perhaps nowhere is this more evident than with the installation Celestial Prayer Meeting, seemingly floating above -- and reflected below on the surface of -- the Dewdrop water feature in the Savanna of the Global Collection Garden. The artist calls these three "the aunties." She describes them as "storytellers" and "sage spirits." This week -- dubbed "one of the nicest weeks of the year, weather-wise," by Eric Berger: Space City Weather -- would be an excellent time to discover "Rich Soil," as well as a wealth of bright and beautiful spring blooms all around the Garden. Look! Up in the sky! It's a...? It's a set of Agave gentryi blooms. There are four currently towering over the Arid Valley of the Global Collection Garden at the same time. If you've never seen even just one of these in person, it really is SUPER. (fb)
