Baker. The Foundation is an institutionally-related, nonprofit, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, and is the repository for all private gifts to Ohio University. Private philanthropy has had a rich and dramatic impact on Ohio University from as early as 1816 when Christopher and Daniel Herrold forgave the debt for the lumber used to build Cutler Hall, the the oldest building on campus and the oldest in the original Northwest Territories of the United States. Today the foundation, and nearly 100 university advancement staff members, manage an endowment of more than $647M and support an engaged and diverse alumni base of more than 255,000 individuals.
