Pittsburgh Concert Chorale
The Pittsburgh Concert Chorale (PCC) is a premier all-volunteer choir based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is recognized as the city's and region's leading large volunteer choir, known for its versatility and artistic excellence in performing a wide range of musical genres.
Mission and Vision
The PCC's mission is to entertain, educate, and enrich the community, audiences, and singers through the lifelong cultivation of choral musical experiences. The choir aims to inspire the community by being an outstanding leader in the choral arts, striving to maintain high artistic standards while engaging and connecting people through music.
Activities and Outreach
The PCC organizes a concert season that includes three series: Holiday Concerts, Classics Concerts, and Pops Concerts. These events feature a variety of musical styles, from traditional carols to major choral works with orchestras and popular music standards. The choir actively participates in community events, such as the Fort Pitt Fourth of July ceremony.
The PCC also hosts an annual Festival of Choirs, which brings together high school choirs from the area to celebrate choral music. This festival supports the development of young singers and includes a grand finale featuring all participants performing a newly commissioned work. The Carol and Robert Woody Choral Commissioning Fund supports these commissions annually.
International Tours
The PCC Touring Choir has embarked on international tours, including visits to Europe. Recent tours have included performances in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Italy, where the choir has sung at historic sites associated with famous composers.
Core Values
The choir emphasizes the following core values:
- Artistry: Believing that choral music enhances emotional depth and meaning in life.
- Engagement: Using music to connect people across different communities.
- Organization: Fostering a culture of integrity, ethical practices, and mutual respect, managing resources responsibly to serve as a model for other organizations.
