Meet UNH Alum Catherine Coverdale!🌻🐝 Catherine Coverdale (’21, ’23G) is the state’s Pollinator Conservation and IPM Specialist with the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. With a deep passion for sustainable farming and community engagement, Catherine is using her expertise to help New Hampshire farmers implement environmentally friendly pest management techniques and create vital habitats for pollinators. Her journey began at UNH, where she worked closely with local farmers and participated in the GRAD834 course on Citizen and Community Science, which fueled her dedication to making a positive, community-driven impact. Now, as a partner biologist with the USDA-NRCS, Catherine fosters relationships between farmers, researchers, and conservationists, ensuring that innovative solutions are accessible to the people who need them most. 🌱🌍 We’re proud to see UNH alumni like Catherine leading the charge in sustainable agriculture and pollinator conservation! A sparkling clean kitchen is the secret ingredient to a successful homestead food business!🧼✨ Keeping your workspace clean and sanitized is essential to maintaining food safety, reducing spoilage and boosting your business profits. Implementing routine cleaning and sanitizing practices helps keep your products safe and your customers happy. Here’s what you need to know: 🔑 Cleaning vs. Sanitizing: -Cleaning: Removes food debris, grease and dust with detergent and thorough rinsing. -Sanitizing: Reduces microorganisms to safe levels using approved sanitizers like chlorine bleach or quats tablets. 💡 Pro Tip: -Always clean surfaces before sanitizing—dirt and grease can reduce sanitizer effectiveness. Be aware that chlorine solutions lose effectiveness after 24 hours, so change them frequently. 📝 Create a Cleaning Schedule: -What needs cleaning? Identify tools, equipment and surfaces. -When should it be done? Daily or after each use. -How will it be done? Follow manufacturer instructions and best practices. -Who is responsible? Make it clear, even if it’s just you! Keep your kitchen safe, sanitary, and ready for business! For more tips and guidance, check out our Fact Sheets on our website! (fb)
