FDNY EMS Retirees

Our members are retired members of the FDNY EMS. They are EMTs and Paramedics of the New York City Fire Department who either service retired or retired on disability. Our organization helps to support these amazing people and their families as there are no other such groups that do. Those that are disabled traditionally are young and have financial troubles supporting their young families. Our organization seeks to make that easier. We also act to help them get the medical monitoring and treatment they need to survive post 9/11 since the City denies many claims for benefits and pensions, and plan activities for all members and their families to participate in for socialization and enjoyment post retirement. One major factor that affects emergency workers when they retire is the lack of socialization that can add to depression. Retiring is a big change of life of an emergency service worker, and we seek to make that transition easier and build networks of services for them. To often a disabled member suffers from a line of duty illness or injury and is denied benefits, or has a lapse of benefits. We assist these members in fighting for them, and support to obtain them as well as navigate the system. Our organization also provides scholarships to their children to assist in financing their education. On small pensions, many workers have trouble sending their children to college. We seek to make that easier too.
