Before Spring Break, our Upper School students attended a special reception at the August Wilson Center, recognizing their incredible work on a meaningful project completed last year. This initiative was coordinated by Mary Martin, our Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging—also an alum and local artist—who brought together key partners to make this experience possible. Artist LaVerne Kemp led 10 workshop sessions guiding members of the Upper School Fiber Arts Club in designing and creating a large-scale public fiber art installation. Using embroidery techniques, playbills, and August Wilson’s personal artwork as inspiration, students brought history to life through their craft. The recently acquired August Wilson estate archives—now housed at the Hillman Library at the University of Pittsburgh—served as key reference materials for their embroidered pieces, now on display at the August Wilson House. Through WT’s City as Our Campus program, students engaged with the August Wilson House, the August Wilson Archives, the University of Pittsburgh Archives, and artist LaVerne Kemp—immersing themselves in local history and hands-on creativity. 🎭 All the world’s a stage, and WT’s talented students shined in this year’s Pittsburgh Public Theatre Shakespeare Monologue Competition! After months of dedication and preparation, our Upper and Middle School students took the stage alongside hundreds of performers from across the region. Their passion and skill earned well-deserved recognition, with multiple students receiving honorable mentions. We are so proud of their hard work and love being part of this incredible celebration of Shakespeare in our city! (fb)
