Gold Cross Ambulance Service Inc is a nonprofit organization based in the Fox Valley region of northeastern Wisconsin. The organization provides essential emergency and non-emergency ambulance services to the local community.
History
Gold Cross Ambulance Service Inc has its roots dating back to 1967 when Jim Welch purchased Lindy's Ambulance. Initially, the company operated with three vehicles and a staff of 15 part-time employees. In 1969, Welch renamed the company to Gold Cross Ambulance Service and began hiring full-time staff, training them to the EMT level. This marked the beginning of a significant expansion for the service.
Development and Partnerships
By 1974, Gold Cross had partnered with local physicians and hospitals to train its staff to the paramedic level, becoming one of the first in Wisconsin to achieve this without federal funding. Over the years, the organization grew through strategic partnerships with local hospitals. In 1991, Gold Cross merged with Metro Ambulance, further solidifying its role in the community.
Operations
Today, Gold Cross Ambulance continues to serve the greater Fox Valley area with both emergency 911 and non-emergency services. The service maintains a strong presence through its ongoing community partnerships and commitment to providing high-quality medical transport services.
Mergers and Expansions
In recent years, Gold Cross expanded its coverage area through mergers with other local services. Notably, the Waupaca Area Ambulance merged with Gold Cross in 2013, followed by the New London Ambulance in 2014. These integration efforts reflect the organization's dedication to enhancing regional healthcare delivery.
