Million Dollar Round Table
The Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) is a global, independent association of financial professionals founded in 1927. The organization is designed to establish best business practices and develop ethical and effective methods for increasing client interest in financial products, particularly risk-based products like life insurance, disability, and long-term care.
History
MDRT was established by a group of 32 successful life insurance agents who met at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, during the annual meeting of the National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU). Initially, the focus was on improving technical knowledge and enhancing sales abilities while maintaining high ethical standards. The organization quickly grew, reaching 118 members by 1930 and exceeding 1,000 members by 1952.
By 1976, MDRT had 11,804 members and introduced elite qualification levels such as the "Top of the Table" for members achieving high levels of production, further solidifying its position in the financial services industry.
Activities
MDRT conducts annual meetings open to all members, featuring professional development activities. These meetings are held primarily in North America and Asia, attracting over 10,000 members and guests each year. The organization emphasizes the concept of the "whole person," originally introduced by philosopher Mortimer Adler, which involves achieving balance and congruity in all aspects of life while continually seeking to develop full human potential.
Membership and Qualifications
To join MDRT, an individual must meet specific annual production requirements and adhere to a strict code of ethics. Ethical violations result in dismissal from the organization. MDRT has established additional tiers of qualification, including Court of the Table and Top of the Table, requiring members to demonstrate higher levels of annual commission income.
Philanthropy: MDRT Foundation
The MDRT Foundation, established in 1959, serves as the charitable arm of MDRT. It supports charitable organizations worldwide by providing grants, reflecting the diverse interests of MDRT members. The Foundation funds various causes, including children in need, education, job training, food insecurity, health and wellness, mental health, poverty alleviation, and disaster relief. All charitable organizations supported by the Foundation must have a connection to an MDRT member, ensuring that donations resonate with the community.
Global Presence
MDRT has members in over 85 nations and territories, making it one of the largest global associations of financial professionals. The organization is recognized internationally as the standard of excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.
Notable Members
MDRT's membership includes highly accomplished financial professionals who have demonstrated exceptional professional knowledge and client service. Notable members serve in various leadership roles within the organization and its Foundation.
