Housing Our Military and Elderly Disabled, a nonprofit organization, builds specially adapted, single family homes at no cost for qualified recipients. Homes for Hearts Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax exempt not for profit organization, was formed to promote self-reliance and independent living. Towards this goal, The H.O.M.E.D. Project was created. Its activities focus on building fully handicapped accessible single family homes, to be “sold” to disabled military veterans and disabled seniors for $1.00. The H.O.M.E.D. Project is designed to prevent the handicapped from being warehoused in public facilities, institutions or otherwise unsuitable housing. This allows the disabled individual to pursue self-sufficiency, develop pride in homeownership, and have an improved quality of life.
