Dana Mathewson, December 19, 1990, is an American former professional wheelchair tennis player. At the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Dana won a Grand Slam tournament title in doubles (with Japanese doubles partner, Yui Kamiji), which made her the first American woman to win a Major wheelchair tennis title. She retired from professional wheelchair tennis in November 2024. Born and raised in San Diego, CA, Dana was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune condition, called transverse myelitis at the age of 11. Dana was left paralyzed from the waist down. It was through her mother’s persistence and unyielding support, that Dana was introduced to wheelchair tennis at 13. Wheelchair tennis helped Dana realize her passion and reclaim her independence. During her career, Dana competed in 12 World Championships and three Paralympic Games (2016, 2020, 2024), and earning 16 singles and 32 doubles titles. While she was playing the game she loved, Dana also earned her degrees in Audiology, earning her Doctorate in Audiology in 2022. Despite making the decision to retire, Dana plans to remain involved in the tennis world in a variety of ways, including coaching and commentating. “If you really want something… find a way to make it happen.
