Ovar Coming Together Inc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Indiana. Founded in 1995 by three women undergoing chemotherapy, the organization aims to provide support, education, and awareness about ovarian cancer.

Founding and History

Ovar Coming Together was established when its co-founders, Kai Binford, Pam Faerber, and Nancy Hines, recognized the lack of resources available for women with ovarian cancer. This realization prompted them to create an organization that would eventually become a founding member of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Today, it remains a Partner Member, enhancing its local efforts with national support.

The mission of Ovar Coming Together is to enhance the lives of ovarian cancer survivors through education, encouragement, connections, and community involvement. The organization's core values include Service, Empowerment, Respect, Integrity, Community, and Excellence.

Programs and Services

• Survivor Support: Ovar Coming Together provides support groups and connections for survivors, caregivers, and family members. This includes a lighter social support group option known as the "Lunch Bunch."

• Education: The organization offers educational resources for survivors and caregivers. This includes quarterly educational meetings focusing on topics such as clinical trials, genetic risks, nutrition, and survivorship. Ovar Coming Together also provides H.O.P.E. packets to newly diagnosed women, containing essential resources and information.

• Advocacy and Awareness: Ovar Coming Together conducts awareness events and participates in local health fairs to educate the broader community about ovarian cancer. The organization is involved in initiatives that raise funds and create awareness, fostering a sense of community among those affected by the disease.

• Community Outreach: Through its partnership with the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA), Ovar Coming Together participates in programs like Survivors Teaching Students, which aims to educate medical students and frontline physicians in Indiana about ovarian cancer.
