Carmen Mohamadi of Holmdel, NJ, was a vibrant and loving wife, mother, daughter, and friend who lived life boldly—always with red lipstick, a radiant smile, and an open heart. Born Carmen Robles in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was raised in Union, NJ, and later built a beautiful life in Holmdel with her husband, Steven, and their daughters, Ashley and Anna. Carmen passed away unexpectedly in February 2018 at the age of 40. In the midst of heartbreak, her family found comfort in knowing she was a registered organ and tissue donor. Her final gift saved five lives, including the recipients of her heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys. “My mom gave life even in death,” said her daughter, Ashley Wright. “That gives us peace.” Today, Carmen’s legacy lives on through Team Lady in Red, who walk in her honor each year at NJ Sharing Network’s 5K Celebration of Life—keeping her memory bright and bold. Join us at our next 5K Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 8 in New Providence. Sign up at NJ5K.org 💙💚 (fb)

Gina Westhoven of Lodi is beloved for her energetic personality and zest for life. But seven years ago, Gina faced serious health issues for the first time in her life, and medical staff at Chilton Medical Center diagnosed her with congestive heart failure. She felt zapped of energy and often struggled to breathe and walk. On December 14, 2020, she received the call that a donated heart was available. The next day, she underwent a successful transplant surgery at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey. Now more than four years later, Gina continues to honor her donor and takes pride in her lifesaving work as an EMT and Medical Technologist. “My heart is my new best friend – to honor my donor I know I must protect it,” said Gina. “When I look in the mirror, I see my scar and it reminds me that I am truly alive. I keep telling my family, friends, and co-workers that ‘Gina Version 2.0’ is better than ever!” Thank you to all EMS workers for the lifesaving work they do every day. #NationalEMSWeek🚑 (fb)
