The Metropolitan Tenants Organization was founded in 1981 as a result of community meeting discussing Chicago's housing crisis. Our first mission was to pass a Citywide Tenants Rgith bill which passed in 1986. MTO has since grown into a membership organization of individual tenants, tenant association and community groups. We work to improve the quality of life of low-income renters. We beleive that when tenants work together they can improve their living conditions as well as create policies that will foster decent affordable housing.
