It was established by Yoshimitsu Yamada Akira Tohei Mitsunari Kanai and Kazuo Chiba all direct personal students of Morihei Ueshiba the founder of aikido. Through their teachings the USAF expanded throughout the country and across the globe. With the passing of Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan 8th dan on January 15th 2023 the USAF is currently under the technical direction of the USAF Technical Committee.
