Inwood House was among the first to address the connection between poverty and teen pregnancy, as well as the first to provide mother/child foster homes, deliver ongoing family support services after childbirth, engage teen fathers, bring asset-building comprehensive sexuality education and prevention programming to school, and engage young boys in pregnancy prevention programming. Today, informed by evidence and led by a highly qualified staff, Inwood House's programs influence best practices and promote the healthy development of approximately 1,200 youth from NYC's vulnerable communities each year through residential and ongoing Teen Family Service initiatives, and comprehensive Teen Pregnancy Prevention programs.Inwood House is dedicated to helping young people become healthy, self reliant adults. We help teens take charge of their lives by:• Facilitating the development of the knowledge, skills, and self-esteem needed to set life goals, make responsible decisions, and avoid teenage pregnancy;• Providing a continuum of care for pregnant and parenting teens in foster care that builds on their strengths and moves them toward self-sufficiency; and• Being a source of hope, guidance and opportunity.
