Barbara Olson Center of Hope

Non-Profit Organization providing programs and services for the developmentally disabled community since 1948. We support people with developmental disabilities in reaching their greatest level of independence. The Center of Hope strives to increase the independence and self-determination of individuals with developmental disabilities through education, vocational training, and job placement. Founded by parents in 1948, including Barbara Olson, to offer educational opportunities to young children with developmental disabilities at a time when public education did not, the Center has continuously met the changing needs of the community - first, by providing services for children; later by providing services for adults. The Center's vision includes the chance to reduce the welfare needs of its consumers through gainful employment as well as to assist them in making informed choices about a variety of issues which affect their lives.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE Belinda lives at home with her mother. It is difficult for her mother to take her out for activities in the community on a regular basis. Being a part of the Volunteer Center affords her opportunities to join other individuals with similar interests for a variety of activities every day including volunteer projects with several different community agencies. Belindas participation in the Volunteer Center is very meaningful in her life.
