Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of North Carolina 128 Hanks

The Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of North Carolina, specifically Hanks Lodge No. 128, is part of the larger Masonic community in North Carolina. Hanks Lodge is one of the many constituent lodges under the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina.

History

Hanks Lodge was organized on March 26, 1850, in Franklinville, Randolph County, North Carolina. This makes it one of the oldest Masonic lodges in the county. At the time of its founding, the lodge's members were focused on establishing a physical presence and began planning for the construction of a Masonic Hall. The hall was built through a contract with local builders Spence W. Dorsett and Thomas Allred for a sum of $1,350, with work completed by May 1851[3].

Historical Building

The original Hanks Lodge building is notable for its Greek Revival architectural style. Although its original location was near River Road between two cotton mills, the hall was relocated in 1924 to its current site on Main Street, Franklinville. This relocation was accomplished by moving the building intact using logs and mules. The structure was eventually covered in vinyl for preservation but retains its original exterior siding beneath[3].

Masonic Organization

As a part of the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina, Hanks Lodge participates in the broader Masonic community in the state. The Grand Lodge itself was established on December 12, 1787, and is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in North Carolina[2][4]. Today, the Grand Lodge oversees over 350 active lodges across the state[2].

Mission and Activities

While specific details about Hanks Lodge's current activities are not provided, Masonic lodges generally focus on philanthropy, community service, and fraternal fellowship. The Masonic organization also places a strong emphasis on adherence to Masonic principles and participation in charitable efforts.

Legal Status

Hanks Lodge is part of a nonprofit organization, as indicated by its EIN (237535905), reflecting the Masonic community's commitment to charitable and fraternal activities. As with other Masonic lodges, its activities are aligned with the broader goals of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina.
