501(c)3 Organization Connecting Children's Authors with Kids The mission of Connecting Authors is to increase literacy rates by connecting young children with published authors who inspire them to become lifelong readers, writers and artists. We provide much-needed role models of literacy and the arts to at-risk elementary students in Oakland. Our authors are reflective of the population at each school, thus further serving as career role models in traditionally underserved communities. Our authors present interactive assemblies and hands-on, minds-on workshops, in which students learn how to create their own published stories. Our objective is also to rally the community around these young authors and simultaneously mentor teachers on how to teach writing.
