Our Why HONORING THE LEGACY OF BEN CARLSONTHE FALLEN NEWPORT BEACH HERO The Ben Carlson Memorial Scholarship Foundation was formed to leverage Ben Carlsons legacy through doing positive work in his memory. Taking into consideration the things that truly mattered to Ben your donations will proudly support the following causes as the BCMSF Board of Advisors decides. Bens Story On July 6 2014 a few blocks south of the Newport Beach Pier Ben Carlson and Gary Conwell were patrolling the ocean in the Sea Watch 2 rescue boat. It was the end of a busy 4th of July weekend that was marked by warm conditions abnormally large and turbulent surf and giant crowds.
