At this year’s WIHD Gala, we are proud to present the Legacy Award to two visionary leaders who shaped WIHD into what it is today. Dr. Margaret J. Giannini (1921-2021), founder of WIHD, was a pioneering physician and lifelong advocate for individuals with disabilities. As the first director of the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, she transformed disability policies and advanced assistive technology. This award will be accepted in her memory by her family. Dr. Ansley Bacon, former President and CEO of WIHD, led the organization for over 30 years, guiding its transition to an independent nonprofit in 2005. Her leadership expanded WIHD’s reach, strengthening its impact on disability services and public health. Their dedication has improved countless lives, and we are honored to celebrate their legacies at the gala. (fb)
