Resurrection House Family Service Center Inc

Follow Message Edit

The Resurrection House was established in 1981 to fight hunger and deprivation in the Harlem, New York Community. Regrettably, men, women, children, the elderly, etc. were going to bed hungry on a daily basis. Malnutrition, anemia, and other food related illnesses were common place and posed a severe problem to community members and their families. For instance, many children were doing badly in school due to inadequate food intake. They simply weren't getting enough food to support their academic efforts. Parents were often forced to cut back on food purchases in order to pay rent. Limited funds dictated that they could not do both (i.e. pay their monthly rent and feed themselves at the same time). The Resurrection House Family Service Center was created to address these problems and assist community members become self sufficient through providing them with free food, counseling, employment, and referral services, among others. It has been doing so for 25 years now and continues to do so today. It has proven successful in bringing stability to families and individuals in crisis and pleagued by hunger.
