Root Cause Farm Inc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity and fostering a more equitable, resilient food system. It was initially established as "The Lord's Acre" but rebranded under its current name in 2019 to better reflect its expanded mission and values.

Root Cause Farm's mission is to grow community solutions to hunger. The organization envisions a food system that is just, equitable, and resilient, where all types of hunger—physical, emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual—are nourished. Its core values include equity and social justice, intentionality, honesty, humility, heart, integrity, inclusion, gratefulness, and generosity.

History

The initiative began in 2008 when a group of Fairview community members identified a lack of fresh produce in the local food pantry. In 2009, they started a project on half an acre of borrowed land to grow fresh, organic produce for distribution to food pantries and other community programs. Over time, the farm expanded to one acre, producing an average of 10 tons of organic produce annually. The name change in 2019 reflected a broader commitment to community building and social justice.

Operations

Root Cause Farm operates as a community hub for education and impact, focusing on organic produce cultivation and distribution to those in need. The farm relies on volunteers and service groups to manage its operations, and it also serves as a site for educational programs and community engagement. Its produce is distributed through local food pantries and other partner organizations.

Financial Structure

As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, donations to Root Cause Farm are tax-deductible. The organization primarily relies on contributions for its revenue, with supplementary income from fundraising efforts.
