Corry Higher Education Council
Overview
The Corry Higher Education Council is a nonprofit organization incorporated on May 31, 1991, to address the lack of adult education and workforce training opportunities in Corry, Pennsylvania. It is the second Community Education Council to be established in Pennsylvania, following the Warren-Forest Higher Education Council in 1984[2].
Purpose
The organization's primary goal is to promote lifelong learning, empower individuals, and enhance the community's quality of life by providing various educational programs[1]. It focuses on creating a competitive workforce and supporting the local community through collaborations with other educational institutions and organizations[2].
Programs
- Adult Education and Career Readiness: Offers free courses such as basic reading, writing, and math skills, GED exam preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL)[1].
- Workforce Training: Provides vocational courses like welding, machining, and Pennsylvania Vehicle Inspection license classes through a partnership with Corry Area High School's Career & Technical Center[2].
- Personal Enrichment: Includes computer training and other non-vocational courses[2].
Partnerships
The organization collaborates with institutions such as the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College and the Manufacturer & Business Association to expand its program offerings[2]. It was also selected as one of the sites for the inaugural classes of the Erie County Community College of PA in Fall 2021[2].
Funding and Support
The Corry Higher Education Council receives funding through a state budget line item. Additionally, it benefits from financial support from local manufacturers, businesses, and charitable foundations like the Arlene H. Smith Charitable Foundation and the Corry Community Foundation[2].
Facilities
The organization operates out of the Bruce and Arlene Smith Education Center, a historic building converted from the former "Hotel Corry" into educational facilities, including classrooms and computer labs[2].
EIN
The organization's Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 251659759[5].
